We can additionally provide you with 3D printed solutions from designs to provide a proof of concept before going ahead with the tool creation. We use high powered 3D CAD software to design plastic injection moulds, extrusion tooling, jigs & fixtures and high precision parts. No matter what stage of the design process you are at, we can step in to realise your project. We have experience working to extremely tight tolerances, and our team can deliver on even the most complex moulds.

Medical Device Design Process

Our customer-centred approach ensures Lawrence Engineering’s team of design experts are at hand to offer guidance and expertise to clients throughout the design process. Our design process follows four steps:


Detailed investigation into the clients’ design requirements. This includes defining the project outline, identifying any barriers to success and establishing timelines.


Collaboration between designers to initialise and explore design concepts, ensuring optimisation for manufacturing.

Concept Development

Within the design phase, we can advise on material selection and various tolerances. Creation of 3D CAD model for approval.


Once the design has been approved by the customer, the mould or tools will then be manufactured in-house.

Design for Manufacture (DFM)

We offer a DFM (Design for Manufacture) service which helps give our customers a more streamlined tooling cost as well as helping to avoid costly and troublesome processing problems further down the road.

Our experienced engineers will work together with you to develop the best mould option depending on the shape of the product, the quantities expected, and the material to be processed.

We work closely with Material specialists and Moldflow analysts to optimise design from the very start to ensure your designs match expectations.
