New Machinery Investments at Lawrence Engineering

Over the past year, we have made several key machinery investments that have significantly improved our output and service range.

Rollomatic ShapeSmart and Comat Superfiltration System

In May 2024, we invested in an additional Rollomatic ShapeSmart 5-axis precision pinch/peel grinding machine. This advanced machine enables us to produce parts ranging from 0.025mm to 25mm in diameter, with the added efficiency of auto-loading from pallets via an integrated three-axis robot loader. The precision and automation of this machine ensure exceptional repeatability, reducing manual intervention and increasing throughput.

To complement the Rollomatic machine, we also invested in the Comat Superfiltration System. This state-of-the-art filtration system enhances machining precision by maintaining ultra-clean oil, reducing tool wear, and improving surface finishes. Additionally, it minimises waste and lowers maintenance costs, all contributing to a more sustainable and efficient production process. With the introduction of this second Rollomatic machine, we have significantly reduced lead times on precision core pins to just 2–3 days, well below standard market availability. This allows us to meet urgent customer requirements while maintaining exceptional quality.

Mitsubishi MP1200 with B-Axis and EDM Dressing Capability

A key investment this year was the Mitsubishi MP1200, featuring a B-axis and EDM dressing capability for grinding wheels. When we were first introduced to this machine, we knew it would be a game-changer. At the time of purchase, it was the only one of its kind in Ireland or the UK, reinforcing our commitment to innovation and R&D.

This machine has provided several benefits:

  • Improved efficiency with faster processing times, enabling us to meet tight deadlines.
  • Reduced environmental impact through enhanced energy efficiency and resource management.
  • Superior surface finishes, ensuring smoother and more refined components.

Mazak CV5-500 – Expanding Our 5-Axis Machining Capabilities

The latest addition to our toolshop is the Mazak CV5-500, a 5-axis machining centre designed for high-precision, efficient production with full simultaneous 5-axis capability. This investment allows us to take on even more complex machining projects while ensuring the accuracy and consistency that our customers expect.

Arburg 375V 500 – Expanding Cleanroom Moulding Capacity

To support the growing demand for cleanroom production, we have recently added a high-precision Arburg 375V 500 vertical moulding machine to our cleanroom facility. This machine provides several key advantages:
