Case Study: Precision, Trust, and Partnership: The Renishaw Neuro Solutions Story
Background
Renishaw Neuro Solutions (RNS) has been developing pioneering drug delivery devices for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
RNS’s solutions – both acute (single use) and chronic (long-term implants with re-access capability) demand precision tooling, highly specialised components, and validated manufacturing processes.
The Challenge

Following a strategic internal shift by one of their established suppliers, RNS needed to identify a new partner capable of handling low-volume, highly complex overmoulding and component manufacturing, and with an ISO13485 QMS and supporting systems in place.
This was a critical business decision for RNS, as the previous supplier had built up more than a decade of knowledge and experience. Understandably, there were concerns about whether a new partner could meet their stringent quality, validation, and service expectations.
Choosing Lawrence Engineering
RNS were already aware of Lawrence Engineering from a tooling perspective, as indirectly we had been supplying tooling for this project. RNS’s current supplier recommended Lawrence Engineering as a component manufacturer, and we were invited to tender. Despite being a smaller supplier, RNS noted the clear passion, transparency, and commitment from their first meeting.
A key factor in their decision was Lawrence Engineering’s ongoing journey to ISO 13485 certification, which we achieved shortly after engagement, which assured RNS of our dedication to medical device quality systems.
From the beginning, commitments were made and consistently met. The fit was clear: Lawrence Engineering’s equipment and expertise were particularly suited to the manufacture of RNS’s small, complex components. There was also a strong team centred approach, and from the outset there was an immediate connection between both teams, who were equally invested in the project’s success. This collaborative approach became one of the key drivers behind the overall success of the project.
The Journey
The transition proved seamless. First-off feasibility parts and validations were delivered without issue, eliminating initial concerns about the changeover.
A key to the success of this partnership was the customer service. The collaboration was described as transparent, responsive, and built on trust. Every interaction reflected Lawrence Engineering’s ethos of “say what you can do – and then deliver it.” This spirit of accountability was complemented by a collaborative mindset, as both teams operated seamlessly together toward shared goals.
Lawrence Engineering’s processes, in the areas of Statistical Techniques, Process Validation and sampling systems, stood out as particular strengths. This gave them confidence that the work was being carried out to the highest standard.

Results
- Flawless transition from a large, established supplier to Lawrence Engineering.
- Strong process validation and documentation system exceeding what RNS had seen with many other vendors.
- Consistent delivery of critical complex components
- Outstanding customer service and transparency throughout the project.
This project was a great example of a successful collaboration. This experience demonstrates how Lawrence Engineering, as a smaller, passionate medical device manufacturer can deliver at the highest level, even in highly complex and regulated fields.
This project also underscored the wider impact of our work. The components we manufactured form part of pioneering drug delivery systems designed to treat complex neurodegenerative conditions and which have the potential to transform patient outcomes and quality of life.
Projects like this demonstrate how a specialised manufacturing partner can contribute meaningfully to the advancement of medical technology and, ultimately, to improving patient care.
